Interactive fiction is a genre of gaming that includes the popular text adventure games such as Zork and advent. Interactive fiction games come in many varieties such as programs, game cartridges, or zcodes. Zcodes are Infocom/Inform format. To play them, you need a Zcode interpreter such as frotz. Interpreters are available for many platforms, so zcode games can be used all over. The if-archive mirror is a huge assortment of interactive fiction of all types. It also includes many zcode games and zcode interpreters for various platforms. I have also assembled some zcode games (particularly ones that are notibly missing from if-archive) and interpreters here in the zcode section. if-archive is a good place to check first, though. -- jgoerzen@complete.org Aug 22, 2000
