T3 Title Page

T3

T3 is my multi-session Dragon 32, Dragon 64 and Tandy CoCo II emulator. It is written in 80386 assembler, and therefore T3 will run only on PCs with an i386 processor or above. It also requires a VGA compatible graphics adapter. T3 is capable of 100% performance on anything more than a 20MHz i386 (it achieves over 1900% on a 233MHz Pentium MMX)!

T3 has a pre-emptive multi-tasking executive which runs up to three Dragon/CoCo sessions simultaneously for each T3 instance. Other features include printing, SoundBlaster sound support, automatic speed control, task image load/save, virtual cassette load/save and snapshot load/save.

T3 can be downloaded from the official T3 home page - click here.

CoCo2 Title Page

CoCo2

CoCo2 is a Tandy CoCo II emulator written by Jeff Vavasour. It will also emulate a Dragon 32 which has been expanded to 64K of memory.

CoCo2 will run on virtually any PC, although a 33MHz i386 is recommended to obtain 100% speed. Features include a debugger, SoundBlaster or PC speaker sound support, variable speed control, Tandy RSDOS disk emulation, virtual cassette load/save and snapshot load/save. To download the latest version of CoCo2, currently v1.5, click here.

To use CoCo2 you will also need to download and convert the Dragon/Tandy CoCo ROM binaries, which can be found here. Instructions for converting these ROMs is included with the emulator.

PC-Dragon II Title Page

PC-Dragon II

PC-Dragon II is a Dragon 32, Dragon 64, and Tandy CoCo II emulator which I wrote between June 1993 and December 1994. A new version was also released in June 1997 to incorporate updates and bug fixes since 1994. It has also been updated in March 1998 to support long filenames in a DOS box under Windows 95/98, in March 1999 for improved text mode graphics, and in June 1999 for disk emulation.

PC-Dragon II is much slower than the other two emulators, being written almost entirely in C, but again will run on virtually any PC. A fast i486 processor is recommended for reasonable usability, and a 90MHz Pentium PC is required to obtain 100% speed.

PC-Dragon II includes a very powerful 6809 disassembler and debugger, as well as an IDE to the freeware Motorola 6809 assembler. It is also fully compatible with snapshots from T3 and any version of Jeff Vavasour's CoCo2 emulator. Several utilities which perform file transfers and conversions are packaged with the emulator. This now includes the VCOPY utility by Stewart Orchard (groundwork by Graham Kinns) which reads and writes Dragon floppy disks in a PC floppy drive.

PC-Dragon II is available for download in various versions/packages. Click one or more of the following links as required:

The latest complete release is PC-Dragon v2.02.

Recommended upgrade to PC-Dragon v2.06.

Also available is the PC-Dragon v2.06 Source Code.

And not yet updated is the PC-Dragon v2.02 Postscript Manual.

Release v2.06 is available only from this website and has long filename support, improved text mode graphics and disk emulation. The upgrade contains new and changed files only - to use it you must have a previous version of PC-Dragon II already installed. For a list of the changes up to v2.02 (and known bugs) look here.

To use PC-Dragon II you will also need to download the Dragon/Tandy CoCo ROM binaries, which can be found here. For disk emulation you will additionally need a disk ROM such as DragonDOS or SuperDOS E6, and for OS9 emulation you will need both of the Dragon 64 BASIC ROMs and a disk ROM plus a bootable OS9 virtual disk. Currently the keyboard is not very responsive with OS9; it works best if you select 'Real' keyboard emulation mode but if you have a fast PC then this will auto-repeat very quickly.

See also Dragon Emulator Software for some useful PC-Dragon II tools.

DREaM

DREaM is a Dragon 32, Dragon 64 and Tandy CoCo II emulator for the Amiga written by Sean Siford.

It runs on any Amiga with an 68020 processor (or higher) and v1.3 of the operating system (or higher). There are two versions, one which allows the speed to be measured and adjusted, and another which is intended for slower machines and simply runs as fast as possible. An A1200 will give 100% speed.

DREaM supports sound and joystick emulation, virtual cassette load/save, snapshot load/save, artifacting, capture of printer output and a variable screen refresh rate. It also features separate control and configuration windows and multitasks well with other applications.

Two utilities are included which allow snapshots from emulators such as T3 and any version of Jeff Vavasour's CoCo2 emulator to be interchanged with the native DSN format used by DREaM.

To download the latest version of DREaM, currently v1.02, click here. This file is an LHA file inside a ZIP file (it has been packed this way due to reports that LHA files were not being downloaded correctly).

To use DREaM you will also need to download and convert the Dragon/Tandy CoCo ROM binaries, which can be found here. A utility to convert these ROMs is included with the emulator.

George McLintock's CoCo I Emulator

This emulator ranks between PC-Dragon II and CoCo2 speed-wise. No other information is available. This emulator is not in the public domain.

Return Of CoCo **UPDATED**

Return of CoCo is a new Dragon and CoCo emulator for Win32 by Russ Le Blang. The emulator is written in C++ and uses Direct X technology. Return of CoCo v0.83a can be downloaded from the official web site.

MESS - Multi Emulator Super System

The MESS emulator is a development based upon the legendary MAME arcade emulator system. It now includes Dragon and CoCo emulation and even has basic disk support. Like MAME the MESS system is a co-operative development project and has more demanding hardware requirements than the specialised Dragon/CoCo emulators. For the latest news and downloads (including source code) visit the official web site.

CoCo3

CoCo3 is a Tandy CoCo III emulator written by Jeff Vavasour. It is not freely available but can be purchased from Rick's Computer Enterprises of Liberty, KY for $25. For more information see http://www.voicenet.com/~swyss/emulator.html.

CoCo3 fully emulates a 512k CoCo III, including syncs, cassette and disk i/o, sound (via SoundBlaster or PC speaker), hi-res joystick interface, and all screen resolutions/palettes. It can run OS-9 level II, and is able to run OS9 level III with the new patches (NitrOS).

Also included are a debugger and speed and volume controls. Any machine faster than 33MHz should be capable of running CoCo3 at 100% speed. The latest version is v1.6.

Description provided by Stuart Wyss.

CoCo Emulator for Power Macintosh

A CoCo emulator is now available for the Power Macintosh - and a 68K version is also in the pipeline. You can download V0.4 with source code from it's home page http://www.maya.com/Local/phil/coco/.

Anyone who tries this emulator is invited to provide technical information to be included here.

PC-Dragon on UNIX

Claudio Matsuoka has stated that he has a UNIX port of PC-Dragon underway. His emulator is initially based on the freeware PC-Dragon II source code but will in due course incorporate totally new keyboard, mouse and disk handling routines. Claudio aims to make it portable to any UNIX box running X11.

No releases of this emulator are available to date. See home page.

Archive of Obsolete Emulators

If you have trouble running the latest emulators and would like to try out older versions of them then please feel free to step into the Archive of Obsolete Emulators.

6809 Simulators

There are a number of raw 6809 simulators in existence. These emulate a base 6809 processor but none of the peripherals of the Dragon or Tandy CoCo. As these programs generally have different uses to the emulators, I've decided not to include them here.

Take a look in the emulators directory at your local SimTel mirror site if you're interested in these.

Dragon and Tandy CoCo ROM Binaries

To use the emulators you will need to download the Dragon/Tandy CoCo ROM binaries in addition to the emulator binaries. However, please note that these files are copyrighted and therefore you should not use them unless you are an existing Dragon/Tandy CoCo owner.

The links below are to files at other sites - I have no control over these files. I do not (and will not) keep copies of the files here. If the links break then it's probably thanks to ELSPA.

Click here to download the Dragon 32 ROM.

Click here to download the Dragon 64 (32K mode) ROM.

Click here to download the Dragon 64 (64K mode) ROM.

Click here to download the CoCo II ROM (US).

Click here to download the CoCo II ROM (Brazillian).

Click here to download the RS-DOS ROM (Brazillian).

Here are some links to other sites which have various Dragon ROMs available for download (try these if the above aren't working):

A project to produce a freeware re-implementation of the Dragon ROM is also currently underway but no releases are available at this time. The Freeware ROM for Emulated Dragons (FRED) allows some cassette and snapshot based Dragon programs to be run on the emulators without using the copyrighted Microsoft ROMs.

More links may appear here shortly (more ROMs are out there... go search for them if you need them...)!
