It's something like discussing the best editor - it becomes a largely religious issue, with the members of each group finding it inconceivable that anyone with half a brain would consider buying the other format after carefully examining both. My personal findings lead me to believe that there is little real difference, with excellent VCR's available in both formats. The deciding factor for me was the kind of format my friends own.
