Rather than have the two systems transfer files simultaneously in BOTH directions and use piggybacking to carry acknowledgements, that is, acknowledgement for message #5 from site A to site B might be carried (piggyback) in message #7 from site B to site A. This is probably fairly tough, given uucp's design. Although there are hooks for a new protocol, they are too low-level for this sort of change. Has anybody done the work needed to take full advantage of the full-duplex modems most people use? It seems a shame to waste all that bandwidth.... perhaps there are good reasons for not doing this? - Nat Howard chico!esquire!nrh ----------------------------------------------------------------- gopher://quux.org/ conversion by John Goerzen of http://communication.ucsd.edu/A-News/ This Usenet Oldnews Archive article may be copied and distributed freely, provided: 1.
