Why is this? We have a 11/45 with the standard 256K of memory but when the runQ has more than 4-5 large jobs we go into thrash mode with all the swap activity. We have tried some things such as laying out the disk with root and swap in the center but the benefits are barely noticeable. I think if the text were shared, not only would you benefit from multiple users using only one copy of the text segment but swaps would only require the data segments. Has anyone ever tried to implement this under V7? Is there a hardware limitation that prohibits this? Phil Hochstetler intelqa!phil 408 496-7199 P.S. Info on any other performance improvements that you have realized from local mods would be appreciated. ----------------------------------------------------------------- gopher://quux.org/ conversion by John Goerzen of http://communication.ucsd.edu/A-News/ This Usenet Oldnews Archive article may be copied and distributed freely, provided: 1.
