The getopt function effectively parses command line arguments (switches, options). Things will become standardized when people can communicate and share better. Another approach to standardization is to get a binary license and don't write any more commands. Just applications. An intermediate would be, don't implement any UN*X enhancements until you've cleared it with some body. (sorta like passing legislation) I'm looking forward to January's USENIX meeting. I hope some of you who like to discuss this type of thing will be there. Unorganized debate outside the auditorium is most enlightening. brian redman ----------------------------------------------------------------- gopher://quux.org/ conversion by John Goerzen of http://communication.ucsd.edu/A-News/ This Usenet Oldnews Archive article may be copied and distributed freely, provided: 1.
