A presentation of Sketchpad -- a "competing" CAD system will be held at WHIPPANY on May 18. For those who are unfamiliar with Sketchpad, it is "the officially supported Engineering Input of schematic information." This program, originating in CB, has been adopted as the EDS (Engineering Design System) by the individuals at IH charged with the development and support of engineering aids! Sketchpad was created by "engineering types" at CB, and has some very nice human factor features. It provides wire-wrap and K6/ Multiwire capabilities as well as giving a DIRECT interface to EID (schematic and all!). HOWEVER it runs on TSO/TSS (BOO HISS). IH now has plans to transport Sketchpad to UNIX!!! The presentation on May 18 is for the purpose of showing us what Sketchpad can do, demonstrating it to the WH community, and entertaining feedback from the users. This is where you come in! Anyone interested in seeing Sketchpad in action, or wishing to contribute to the discussions are encouraged to come. Please keep in mind that these people are in a formative stage and are receptive to comments, so the greater our attendance at this meeting the better. The Bell System is investing a considerable effort in this development, let's not permit it to be mis-guided! The delegation from IH is headed by Herb Chang (D.H.) and Dick Talmadge (Supr.) and the presentation should not take more than a couple of hours in the morning. Anyone wishing to attend, please contact me (Jim Arnold) on WH-3144; harpo!jea; WH2E308A. ----------------------------------------------------------------- gopher://quux.org/ conversion by John Goerzen of http://communication.ucsd.edu/A-News/ This Usenet Oldnews Archive article may be copied and distributed freely, provided: 1.
