The opening night lecture was by Norm Dalkey of UCLA, on the Delphi procedures for expert polling and predicting. The highlight of the conference was a closing speech by Robert Heinlein about his nightmare of black boxes (unmanned probes) meeting and repopulating the universe after the extinction of Man who refused to probe space himself.
