Aunc.3347 net.news utzoo!decvax!duke!unc!smb Sat Apr 24 16:52:44 1982 shortening subscription lists A lot of users here have extremely long subscription lists; most of these are of the form 'all,!net.foo,!net.bar,...'. The idea, in general, is to see anything new and interesting that comes over the net, but to unsubscribe when the topic proves to be of little interest. From comments I've seen on the net, other sites have experienced similar phenomena. I suggest that inews be modified so that any news item that forces an update to the active file be posted to group 'newgroup' as well. This group would not be broadcast to any other system; indeed, inews should reject any attempt to post to it explicitly, whether from the local system or via rnews.
