All I'm suggesting is that the "active" list be truly dynamic, not just monotone increasing. I guess that it would involve cleaning up the sub-directories, removing the '.' files and perhaps having readnews automatically clean up each person's .newsrc file as news is read - by not rewriting those newsgroups that no longer appear in the active file. Also some more formal way of creating newsgroups seems to be in the wind. How about only allowing submission of news to existing groups, instead of simply asking whether to crate the new group. Then an automatic newsgroup similar to the site one (I forget its name) could be used to add to the .ngfile when a group is "blessed".
