Firstly, if such a change were to be made, there would be an INCREDIBLE upward compatibility problem. Since you can't change the whole net at once, you would have to have gateways using the old scheme on old systems. Second, while I can see a relation between btl.bugs and net.bugs, it is also fairly clear that btl.general and net.general are NOT the same newsgroup, and are both quite different from general. If a user could only subscribe to "general" and get all or nothing from all.general, he would bitch and moan a lot. Third, in scanning my active file, I don't see any duplications of suffixes except for general and test. Is there any indication that there is really going to be an explosion? I don't foresee one.
