In any case, could you really imagine the Justice Minister of Canada trying people for treason for making jokes about the Royal Wedding? Could you imagine the sort of Question Time he would undergo after making such a move? (Government ministers in Parliamentry countries are subject to regular interrogations in the Parliament; for some examples of what goes on during Question Time, listen to Sunday Morning on CBC/NPR.) Surely Britain has roughly the same laws about the Royal Family, and yet look at all the jokes about the Royal Family on BBC Comedy Shows. (notably the jokes about Princess Margaret on Monty Python) Joel Rubin ----------------------------------------------------------------- gopher://quux.org/ conversion by John Goerzen of http://communication.ucsd.edu/A-News/ This Usenet Oldnews Archive article may be copied and distributed freely, provided: 1.
