Azehntel.130 net.news utzoo!decvax!ucbvax!menlo70!sytek!zehntel!berry Thu Jan 7 09:18:19 1982 Legal question In a recent net.jokes article, jcwinterton points out that Royal wedding jokes could violate Canadian Criminal Code sections 1-10 (treason). While I agree that Royal wedding jokes are in rather poor taste (and most aren't even funny!), I would like to know: 1) can United States citizens submitting articles to USENET that are legal in the US be prosecuted if they violate Canadian law? and 2) Even if 1) is true, how can a U.S. citizen commit treason against Canada? (Note to jcwinterton: I am truly curious about this. I do not mean to say "Nyah nyah! Can't touch us so we'll do whatever we want." Question 1 raises some interesting topics I am not qualified to answer. Any attorneys out there?) -berry ----------------------------------------------------------------- gopher://quux.org/ conversion by John Goerzen of http://communication.ucsd.edu/A-News/ This Usenet Oldnews Archive article may be copied and distributed freely, provided: 1.
