I am new on the net and have seen several conversations on maps. I am not talking about maps. What I would like is a file or data base that I could scan with a site name and get: Who is the site: gi = General Instrument Corp. R&D Lab Address: 2201 W. Williams Field Road Chandler, Arizona 85224 Phone: (602) 963-7373 Somebody there: Mike Wendel (Computer Systems Manager) What do they do (brief): Research in semiconductor field. Primarily in the area of custom vlsi design. hardware conf: VAX 11/780 with 2.0 MB mem Emulex SC21V disk controller with 2 CDC 9766 disks 2 - Able DH/DM (Supermax) 1 - LXY11 (Printronix) printer plotter 1 - Genisco GCT300 Color Graphics System (1024x768) It would be nice if such a directory existed and some software to use it. I envision it working as follows: Newsite - a command? to add a new site to the file or data base Update - a command? to update information for a site whois - a command to scan the file or data base using a keyword I would be willing to write part of such a system (If it doess't already exist) if it is determined desirable and feasible by others on the net. I welcome any comments on this or any other existing or potential facility.
