I still see a lot of overlap between the two groups. I've been posting to both lately only because I see similar discussions going on in both groups, and I don't know who subscribes to which. It's probably a good idea to decide 1) whether or not we need both and 2) if we choose to keep both, what is the purpose of each? My ideas on the subject aren't too well defined, but somehow I think both groups are needed. There are records that contain things other than music (this is not a cue for some of you to say, "Yeah, like rock/disco/ Grateful Dead/etc"), such as comedy, movie soundtrack (dialog, etc.), radio broadcast, etc. And, of course, there is music that does not appear on records, as there are musical events, books, etc. unrelated to records. Again, I'm not at all sure where the dividing line is between the two, but I think we need them both. I'd like to hear (and say) more about the issue. I am willing to field comments from those of you who can reach me by mail (...!pyuxjj!rlr), but if you can't or if you feel it belongs on the net, let's continue talking about this her in NET.NEWS.GROUP (preferably not in net.records/music).
