When a newsgroup is officially invalidated (nullified, disbanded, whatever), remove the active file entry and the directory for the newsgroup. If someone tries to submit an article to this newsgroup then, they will get the "Do you wish to create a new newsgroup called xxx?" question which may make them reconsider. Actually, the program only checks for the existance of the directory but things can be really screwed if there is an active file entry without a directory. It can be dangerous to remove dot files because this can cause article numbering to restart within the newsgroup, which conflicts with .newsrc information and can cause people to miss articles which may be important. In other words, don't remove the dot file until the newsgroup has really been dead for a while. I suppose this should be documented in install.ms.
