Adopey.142 net.micro utcsrgv!utzoo!decvax!duke!unc!dopey.smb Wed Mar 10 09:41:02 1982 high-end micros Motorola says that the 68010 -- the virtual memory-capable 68000 will be sampled in 4th quarter 1982. The 68020 -- a 32-bit version -- will be sampled in 4th quarter 1983, as will a IEEE floating point coprocessor. These latter two are HCMOS technology, which should reduce power consump- tion significantly. Motorola has captured about a third of the 16-bit market; most of the rest belongs to Intel. The Z-8000 doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Intel has announced plans for a 32-bit version of the 8086; their customers are resisting the 432 because of the reprogramming that would be needed. ----------------------------------------------------------------- gopher://quux.org/ conversion by John Goerzen of http://communication.ucsd.edu/A-News/ This Usenet Oldnews Archive article may be copied and distributed freely, provided: 1.
