Twice as fast as ECL (300ps) and the same size and power as TTL. Research is being done at Cornell and by the Navy on electroactive polymers as molecular electronic-switching devices. Enzymes are used to perform logic functions and the assembly of these molecules uses techniques from recombinant-DNA research. Size is about two orders of magnitude smaller than the limits of optical lithography. This is even better than electron or X-ray lithography can do! Does anyone know anything more about this? WOW! Who knows, carbon based logic could someday blur the distinction between computer and operator. Being made out of the same "stuff" as the computer, imagine if it some day decides you're just a slow low-grade peripheral that can be dispensed with. (I realize that last paragraph is letting my imagination run away with me but it does provoke thought). ----------------------------------------------------------------- gopher://quux.org/ conversion by John Goerzen of http://communication.ucsd.edu/A-News/ This Usenet Oldnews Archive article may be copied and distributed freely, provided: 1.
