The effect can more easily be accomplished by saying: readnews -p > /dev/null This will print out all the news items without asking for a 'ynq' and throws them all away (/dev/null). It will record that you have read everything that goes by. This way you don't make (or keep) a file full of n's and you don't waist time reading from that file, you just waist time outputing the news items.
