I'll bet the "ao" is a typo, and that "oa" ::= "office automation" was the original intent. Why oh why do progamming people feel that it is necessary to delete all the vowels and every fifth consonant to make up empty abbreviations no one can remember? I propose that net.ao be changed to net.office. With respect to subgroups, why is it necessary to limit names, etc to things in the file system?
