Unless certain obvious steps are taken by system administrators, it can be used for much more antisocial things. Since it's not my business to be your conscience, I'm still willing to mail a copy of the program to any site that wants one (although I had no knowledge of all this rogue business when Gordon Hamachi asked me about distributing it.) But here are the restrictions: 1. Please send only one request per site. 2. Please install it in /usr/public or someplace similar and notify your user community, rather than hoarding it somewhere. I'm not going to make any attempt to enforce either of these; please observe them out of courtesy. It's up to your system administrator to decide whether the protection on /dev/kmem and /dev/mem should be changed. The UNIX tradition has favored cooperation and friendly anarchy rather than competition and authoritarianism. Rogue seems to promote the latter. I'm saddened that the steps that would have to be taken to prevent the abuse of gcore would lead in the same direction.
