Aucbvax.6638 net.games.rogue utzoo!decvax!ucbvax!hamachi Wed Apr 7 15:50:56 1982 Late Returns From decvax!harpo!duke!mcnc!unc!bch Wed Apr 7 12:56:48 1982 Full-Name: Byron C. Howes It may be that in your opinion you were not holding up the distribution but Ken was. This, however, is not a democracy and while we may have distributed computing we do not have distributive justice. Fact is, friend, you knew and you wouldn't tell the implementor who, in turn, wouldn't distribute the program. *You* called the tune, not Ken, and thus must face the consequences. Frankly, if you are the kind of person who would go to such lengths to cheat at rogue as opposed to competing honorably within the context of the game, then I am most happy *not* to number you among my friends. Gee Byron, I'm real sorry to lose a friend like you! Please, won't you reconsider? I'll be good. I'll do anything you or Ken Arnold says, from now on. Okay? Look at things another way: Suppose Ken Arnold told me that he wouldn't distribute rogue unless I told him my account password. I call the tune? The fact is that NOBODY has the right to FORCE me to divulge my information. It doesn't matter if it is how a bug works or if it is my mother's maiden name. Another of my points was that rogue is by no means bug-free. Why doesn't he fix the 'gcore' bug before he blames ME for holding out on THE ONE LAST BUG in rogue? Why doesn't he fix the bug that lets you get negative hit points and thereby become invulnerable? I have never been responsible for holding up the distribution of rogue. It was completely Ken Arnold's decision. From ihuxl!tjarks Wed Apr 7 12:59:20 1982 It sounds as if you don't care about skill in games; you just want your name up there with the high scorers, no matter what it takes. Do you also own a set of loaded dice? Tim Tjarks You seem to be assuming an awful lot. Why would a hard-core cheater even hint that such bugs exist? Why not instead keep quiet and continue to garner high scores? Several people suddenly "figured out" what the bug was and mailed it in to Ken. Doesn't that strike you as odd? I honestly feel I am the victim of Ken Arnold the Manipulator, who has made me be the bad guy in his own childish campaign to make me tell him something I had no desire nor obligation to tell him. As accomplices Ken the Pusher enlisted his Rogue Junkies who, upon reading net news, saw the message: You feel greedy and you sense a new version --More-- Please send harassing mail to csvax.hamachi at Berkeley. ----------------------------------------------------------------- gopher://quux.org/ conversion by John Goerzen of http://communication.ucsd.edu/A-News/ This Usenet Oldnews Archive article may be copied and distributed freely, provided: 1.
