Autzoo.1382 net.games.rogue utcsrgv!utzoo!laura Fri Feb 12 14:07:34 1982 AD&D and RM?? I am not sure about the AD&D which ihnss!ihuxn!otto plays, but in the campaigns i have run or played in Magic users (not called mages) are not allowed to wear ANY ARMOR, including leather armor. The exception to this is multi-classed non-human characters --such as elven mu-thieves, or elven fighter-mus (mu = magic user). They can wear armor and cast magic spells. Even humans who begin their careers as fighters and later become magic users can not cast spells in leather armor. (They can carry it with them, and wear it, but they have to get undressed before they cast spells) Notice the difference - elven fighter-magic users can wear plate mail and cast spells, while himan fighters who have given up fighting and taken up magic cant cast spells in armor. AD&D rust monsters, (at least all the ones i have seen) dont touch leather armor. They do, however, eat swords. Magic swords and Magic Metal Plate attract them. It is quite common to see a party of fighters turn tail and flee at the sight of RM --(but their fast) leaving the leather clad thieves and robed mus to kill the monster with spells (magic missiles), or slinging rocks at them, or shooting darts, or hitting them with a wooden staff. They are much easier to kill in AD&D than in rogue -- but they move much faster than a person in plate mail, too. ----------------------------------------------------------------- gopher://quux.org/ conversion by John Goerzen of http://communication.ucsd.edu/A-News/ This Usenet Oldnews Archive article may be copied and distributed freely, provided: 1.
