Amcnc.1089 net.dcom utcsrgv!utzoo!decvax!duke!mcnc!taylor Thu Mar 11 15:30:40 1982 Develcon monitor port command In order to access the monitor ports (slims) on our dataswitch from a terminal to monitor both directions, we built a special cable which will take the output from both pins 2 & 3 (both are outbound on the card) and place all the data on pin 3. this cable may then be con- nected to a DTE slim, which may be addressed. Consequently, any terminal with appropriate permissions may be used as a monitor for the dataswitch connections. This is especially nice if your terminal (or micro) can show control characters, giving you essentially a datascope on your desk. (You can't see which characters came from which source, but all characters can be seen.) The connections for the cable are: Monitor slim DTE slim 2-----|>|---| | |------------------------3 | 3--(5k ohm)-| 7------------------------------------7 |----8 | |----20 |>|- is my crude representation of a diode. (i hope it's turned right. anode is connected to the pin, and cathode to the resistor.) this can then be connected via a directory or a force connect. ps - the televideo 950 will show control characters. are there any other common terminals with this feature?
