It's a dialect of PL/I, with excellent diagnostics -- significantly better than PL/I Checkout. It does things like correcting syntax errors (with an appropriate level of error messages -- and it often corrects them right! ). As of five years ago, Cornell was mostly batch oriented, although they were starting to convert to CMS. I don't know if the language and compiler options have been upgraded to reflect this.
