I've always found a mortar and pestle doesn't really grind things, it just seems to crush them. We keep one just for spices. Cost about $15-$20. One major drawback: they're hard to get really clean. Has anyone ever seen a pair of stones, on big and one little, fairly rough and designed for grinding spices instead of just mashing them? I seem to have heard such a thing described somewhere, but have never actually seen one. I expect it would be far nicer than an electric gizmo, and much easier to clean. ----------------------------------------------------------------- gopher://quux.org/ conversion by John Goerzen of http://communication.ucsd.edu/A-News/ This Usenet Oldnews Archive article may be copied and distributed freely, provided: 1.
