This is a good recipe for chocolate addicts and sugar junkies. The rest of you should interrupt your pagers and spare me the lecture on junk food. Mix in 3qt. HEAVY pot 1c. condensed milk ( *NOT* sweetened ) 2c. sugar (granulated) 3tbsp. butter 1.5 tbsp white Karo 2 oz. Hershey's unsweetened chocolate (Germans does not work for some strange reason that I do not comprehend, it fails to emulsify completely.) .5 tsp. salt. Stir until ingredients are well distrubuted. Heat slowly to medium ball stage (using cold water test only, I never had any luck with a thermomiter), stirring to keep from sticking and to mix. JUST AFTER (sorry) the chocolate melts, beat to a smooth consistancy with an electric mixer or whatever. After medium ball stage is reached, let cool until just cool enough to touch. Blend in: 1c. chopped (1/4" sized) walnuts or pecans 1tbsp dark rum, I use Myers or Stroh Inlander. 1tsp vanilla extract. Continue to stir slowly until the surface of the mixture begins to turn rough (i.e. not glossy) at this point, or very soon after, the mixture will set like a soft brick, so turn rapidly and thoroughly(unless you like to lick the bowl) into a 5" diameter buttered pan. After the misture looses its stickiness, but before it's completely set, cut it with a warm knive that has been coated with butter. Its your last chance to do so. Let it set for ~1hr. Gain weight. Cheers. ----------------------------------------------------------------- gopher://quux.org/ conversion by John Goerzen of http://communication.ucsd.edu/A-News/ This Usenet Oldnews Archive article may be copied and distributed freely, provided: 1.
