Keyworth, science advisor to President Reagan, today expressed the administration's commitment to planetary exploration and set out to disclaim some recent rumors. One of these was the reported idea of shutting off of the Voyager deep space probes, before Voyager II reaches Uranus in 1986 and then Neptune in 1989. He said that this was not true at all, and the Voyager program will go on. He also expressed the administration's desire for the Gamma Ray Observatory, which will look into gamma ray emissions from space in much the same way that the Einstein X-ray Observatory mapped X-ray emissions. He said, ``The Reagan administration is supporting a strong initiative in planetary science, and this includes a number of new projects that will develop using the capabilities of the space shuttle.'' He did infer, however, that they may not begin until near the end of the 1980's. ----------------------------------------------------------------- gopher://quux.org/ conversion by John Goerzen of http://communication.ucsd.edu/A-News/ This Usenet Oldnews Archive article may be copied and distributed freely, provided: 1.
