Aresearch.136 net.columbia utzoo!decvax!ucbvax!mhtsa!research!sjb Mon Nov 2 22:11:20 1981 update Here is a summarized update. I'd like to hear some feedback (not necessarily to be submitted, just to let me know how y'all like it) on how this format works. TV coverage: All three major networks and Cable News Network plan to begin broadcasting live from the various space centers around the nation at 0600 EST Wednesday morning. They will continue through 1000 EST (ABC will stop at 0930) and then have updates and the like at their regular ``newsbreaks.'' Weather: Forecasts predict acceptable conditions Wednesday morning for a launch. ``Modest'' winds, scattered clouds, 7 miles visibility, and ~75 degrees are predicted. Prior to the launch, John Young (gee, where have I heard that name before?), will fly a small plane designed to handle like the shuttle across the emergency abort runway at the Cape to test the weather conditions. Tiles: NASA officials say not to worry about them. There has been talk of taking a repair kit along, but that has been analogized as to taking extra wing struts. P.S. I know this is a sick pun, but I had to throw it in: net.columbia will remain undigested. ----------------------------------------------------------------- gopher://quux.org/ conversion by John Goerzen of http://communication.ucsd.edu/A-News/ This Usenet Oldnews Archive article may be copied and distributed freely, provided: 1.
