Autzoo.1624 net.cms utzoo!mleech Tue May 4 14:31:15 1982 Student CMS, OSBATCH, CP PER A while ago I had the "opportunity" to use a variant of CMS at U of Waterloo called "student CMS". Without meaning to offend or anything, I got the impression that it was a real crock. Student CMS seems highly restricted, you can't do tape i/o, some query commands don't work, you can't use QED,... I'd like to know who is forced to use student CMS, does the whole student population have to use it? are the programming staff the only guys who get "normal" CMS??? I'd also like to hear opinions of other people who have used student CMS did I miss somehthing vital, making my evaluation way out of line? On a different track, I noticed while I was up a Waterloo that there was an OSBATCH virtual machine connected--I was under the impression that Waterloo terminated OS batch service last April--what gives? I am not trying to attack Waterloo, they have done more than anyone in getting CMS to be a really livable system--I am just curious about the motivations behind student CMS. Also, Does anyone know whether the CP PER command is a Waterloo mod to CP? ----------------------------------------------------------------- gopher://quux.org/ conversion by John Goerzen of http://communication.ucsd.edu/A-News/ This Usenet Oldnews Archive article may be copied and distributed freely, provided: 1.
