How will one program workstations? Will it be easier? Will there be other proceedures than those of large systems or simply a reduced scale of large system design? Hank ------------------------------ Date: 3 Nov 1981 (Tuesday) 2058-EST From: KENDALL at HARV-10 Subject: Smalltalk info source, 432/Smalltalk juxtaposition To: mike.bmd70 at BRL-, WorkS at RUTGER- cc: KENDALL The excellent August (July?) issue of \Byte\ was dedicated to Smalltalk, written completely by members of the Smalltalk development group. This is the best source of information about Smalltalk until the two books come out. If I remember correctly from that issue, the old Smalltalk virtual memory system (called OOZE) allowed as many as 64K objects, but that limit was reached, so the new system allows more than 64K objects. This means that the Intel iAPX [what do those letters stand for?] 432, which allows no more than 64K objects, would make a bad Smalltalk engine. -- Sam Kendall [Thanks also to Ian H. , , Steve Bellovin, Ed Pattermann , Chris , Jeff Prothero , Ron Fowler , , Hank Walker at CMU-10A and Bob for also pointing to the BYTE issue. -JSOL] ------------------------------ End of WorkS Digest ******************* ------- ----------------------------------------------------------------- gopher://quux.org/ conversion by John Goerzen of http://communication.ucsd.edu/A-News/ This Usenet Oldnews Archive article may be copied and distributed freely, provided: 1.
