The idea is that there is hardly a moment when there isn't at least one aircraft over someplace in the U.S., so the number of times you would find the global network unavailable to your pocket terminal should be fairly small...and of courronic equipment in an airplane (including a two meter amateur radio transmitter) without effect on the radios. When people start using their personal computers on the plane, someone will find out if they really cause a problem (with the new FCC EMI (electro-magnetic interference) regulations I see no problem with using microprocessor-based devices on a plane).
