Noel Chiappa To: purdue!cak at BERKELEY cc: JNC, unix-wizards at SRI-UNIX In-Reply-To: Your message of 8-Sep-81 1547-EDT The ~ symbols are C braindamage. Ignore them, also the leading _ on C externals. The double calls to mch$trap/mch$call indicate a fault in kernel mode; the handler goes through them to prf$panic. The rl$rlread calling lp$lpclose indicates gross lossage; investiaget there for bugs. The problem with the system wedging is probably buffer starvation; the system takes one block buffer for each mounted FS and when you get a lot of FS's mounted the size of the buffer-pool is appreciably smaller, leading to deadlocks. If any of this was unbearably terse, let me know and I'll explain at length. ------- --------------- This blew up when I sent it yesterday... ------- ----------------------------------------------------------------- gopher://quux.org/ conversion by John Goerzen of http://communication.ucsd.edu/A-News/ This Usenet Oldnews Archive article may be copied and distributed freely, provided: 1.
