When I took a look at what you gave up to run Unix under VMS (IS/1 was the only Vax Unix around at the time), I talked them into buying 11/70s instead. I guess that I would feel the same way about any VMS/Unix, however; the things I didn't like about VMS/IS/1 came from VMS rather than ISC's implementation, (file tree depth limitations, inability to treat files as byte streams, etc.). Do you really \have/ to have VMS? Peter Langston chico!esquire!psl p.s. This is in reply to Andy Tanenbaum's question. I only realized after I'd typed the whole letter that it was going to be sent by netnews to unix-wizards. Our "reply" interface to netnews is very dumb and won't let me re-route it... ----------------------------------------------------------------- gopher://quux.org/ conversion by John Goerzen of http://communication.ucsd.edu/A-News/ This Usenet Oldnews Archive article may be copied and distributed freely, provided: 1.
