Aucbvax.1924 fa.unix-wizards utzoo!duke!decvax!ucbvax!CSL.JLH.MOGUL@SU-SCORE Thu Jun 25 12:45:52 1981 Tape archiving systems We are interested in finding a system (to run on our 4BSD Vax Unix) that allows us to (1) Move selected files onto tape (2) record someplace (on-line) what files are on what tapes (3) retrieve files with a minimum of bother (i.e., not require a wizard to retrieve) (4) efficiently use tapes (i.e., not partially fill them) tar might meet (1) and (2), but the current manual entry implies that the r flag cannot be used without the c flag; thus (4) becomes difficult unless we batch files by the tape-full. (2) would probably require some minor modifications to tar. If anyone has something like this, please let me know. -Jeff ------- ----------------------------------------------------------------- gopher://quux.org/ conversion by John Goerzen of http://communication.ucsd.edu/A-News/ This Usenet Oldnews Archive article may be copied and distributed freely, provided: 1.
