Aucbvax.6681 fa.info-terms utzoo!decvax!ucbvax!info-terms Sat Apr 10 14:58:43 1982 Costs of terminal ribbons >From RAM@MIT-MC Sat Apr 10 14:58:20 1982 There is a hidden cost in inferior manufacturing which I recently discovered for cloth ribbons (for a DECWRITER, although I presume the same problems would apply to all): Some manufaturer's use a plastic center hub, with the little hook that should hold the ribbon therefor susceptible to breakage of the printer should happen to apply too much force when the ribbon is about to reverse (in prinicple I guess this shouldn't happen of the reversal rivet is far enough away from the ribbon end). It then becomes necessary to scrounge a better spool, if you can. If you can't you throw away the ribbon and hope it doesn't happen with the next one.
