I would urge the people responsible for termcap/ex/vi (whatever) to create a flaging option that tells termlib/termcap that the terminal is an ANSI standard terminal. Then most of the massive information for capability driving could be indicated by simply including flags that the capability is available on the terminal. It might be necessary to indicate non-ANSI capabilities in a longer form, but that could be much simpler.
