Until someone comes out with a device independent [nt]roff they have the advantage that they are one of the few term- inals that nroff can create rather nice output on. If you use tbl or neqn that works well too; it is rather amusing watching it do equations. The newer models use the ctrl-s/ctrl-q flow control, the older ones used eqn/ack; standard v7 Unix tty driver doesn't support eqn/ack. The newer models also run at 1200 baud as well as 300 baud, although it can't really keep up with 1200 baud and relys on the flow control to keep its internal buffer from overrunning. We have a problem with ours where the vertical spacing in plot mode seems to be out of adjustment. This shows up when using the -me macros (they use more vert- ical motion than the -ms macros), the text gradually slips towards the bottom of the paper. The Psychology department has had problems with one of theirs where it gets confused and can't find the home position on the print wheel and spins it constantly looking for it. ----------------------------------------------------------------- gopher://quux.org/ conversion by John Goerzen of http://communication.ucsd.edu/A-News/ This Usenet Oldnews Archive article may be copied and distributed freely, provided: 1.
