I don't feel that it's preserving my safety... If saving lives is really the reason for intensive effort in agriculture research, then why are people still dying of starvation in the third world? Because even though we are trying as hard as we can, we are still only partially successful. I would not abandon agricultural research just because it has not yet solved all the world's problems; if we stopped the research, things would be even worse.
