See, you even have to make changes to your registry in order to browse some gopher menus with Internet Explorer. How many users can we expect to do so? Let alone how many users still remember gopher if they know it at all? And those who remember, how many of them really use Internet Explorer (for browsing gopher space)? Gopher protocol does not limit anyone to port 70 lets not try and change that.
