The 'n' crept in there by accident.  Yes, I know how convenient Debian
is, it's the only Linux distribution I've used for years!  I was feeling
nostalgic so I thought I'd give Slackware a try again (if I was *really*
nostalgic I'd install SLS from that box of 5 1/4" floppies I have in my
cupboard, but I have a feeling that Gnome requires Linux > 0.99pl12 and
I don't have a 5 1/4" floppy drive anymore :-)).  Well, that and the
fact that my laptop's hard drive seems to be shrinking all the time and
slack installs easily onto a DOS partition (which Debian, unfortunately,
does not).

Tomcat is Apache's reference implementation of Java Servlets and JSP.  I
haven't used Jserv, but my understanding is that it implements an older
version of the servlet spec and requires Apache to run.  Tomcat can run
standalone (it can also run in conjunction with Apache, like Jserv).
It's very easy to install -- unpack it, set a couple of environment
variables, and run.

Well, for yours it's no problem because I love Python and use it all the
time.  Gnome... well, I can't say it's my favorite thing in the world.

Agreed.  Trouble with developers is we all have our own preferences for
languages and environments, which makes it difficult to collaborate
sometimes.
